Warren Harding's Last Hours
After Warren Harding died I read a story written by someone who was with him near the very end. Does anyone know who wrote the story and where I can get a copy? Thanks. |

I think you might have more luck if you ask here: |

I believe it was Gallen Rowell, I have the article on my wall at home it was in the back of an outdoor type magazine I found at a Dr's office. |
I did a little Google and probably what you are looking for is the story "Reflections of a Broken-Down Climber' by Galen Rowell, from his book “Vertical World of Yosemite/" |
"Vertical world of Yosemite" was published in 1988, well before Harding's death. "Reflections of a Broken Down Climber" was written by Harding himself in the early '70s, and was included in Harding's book "Downward Bound: A Mad! Guide to Rock Climbing". "Reflections of a Broken Down Climber" also appeared in "The Games Climbers Play", an excellent anthology by Ken Wilson. I used to own an early (first?) edition of "The Games Climbers Play", I wish I still had it. |

I think I read that story. Was it about how Warren got psyched again and made plans to climb the South Six Shooter with the guy that wrote the article? I think it appeared in Alpinist before it changed ownership. |
I'm sitting here looking at a copy of The Games Climbers Play and there's no Warren Harding writing in it but a review of Downward Bound by Royal Robbins, which is hilarious and worthy on its own. |
OK,my mistake about "Games Climbers Play". I still wish I had my copy, though. |

Thank you all very much for your replies, but I think I screwed up my request for info. What I meant to say was: |

Obviously someone here may know too (I read the article myself at the time, I just have no idea where, or by whom), but Yosemite historians are to be found in huge numbers over on ST |
