running + cross-training + approach shoe combo?

Is there such a thing - something that would be ok for easy running (cushioned heel), cross-training (good arch support) as well as easy approaches (sticky rubber and reinforced toe)?

I've been happy with the Salewa Wildfires, but they lean slightly more toward approach shoe. So far I've taken them on routes up to mid-5th class.

Sportiva Crosslite/Crossover. One shoe to do it all, although I try to limit running on pavement in them. It's the same rubber they use on their low end climbing shoes. Could probably even free a 5.6 hand crack if I had to.

I use the brooks Cascadia for everything. on my third pair, best trail runner I've ever had.

Take a look at the Scarpa Epic

I have been totally impressed with this shoe. It hikes, runs and climbs pretty well. It is a well built shoe that will go the miles.

I use the Sportiva Vertical K's

it uses the approach rubber but in narrower strips. I've done 30 milers in them, but also climbed all the flatirons in them. The soft upper will be shredded if you try and jam with them.

But for endurance and slab its my top choice.

If soloing a long ridge, id probably use these and bring along a velcro for quick on and off. The speed I can carry using these shoes justifies the changing time for me.

If you can some how, some way find the old Exum Ridge from La Sportiva... That is the shoe for you. I think there was an incarnation more recently called Exum Guide. The Xplorer or Ultra Raptor from sportiva look the closest to the ones I've previously mentioned. I'll also through in a +1 for Vertical K... I love those things. They're ugly but comfy and sticky.

I think I'll go with Sportiva, already own their boots and happy with the sizing. The Vertical K look like what I am looking for - seem to do anything, from a quick run with my pup to hiking to doing some stretching to approach and scrambling.

+1 for the cascadia.

Merrell Chameleon stretch is good, I've used it for all three aforementioned activities.

+1 on the sportiva vertical k. Comfy and light shoe. The tread/sole is crazy grippy! Although one thing to consider is the upper seems fragile and not nearly as burly as some other trail running models.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
