Haul bag vs Pack
Anyone use a haul bag as their daily pack? Do you miss the support a pack might provide? |
Not for very long hike ins,,that's for sure. Huge loads capable, but uncomfortable straps most of the time. Day pack for most use, haul bag might be used for storage of excess gear in the car, before I pick out what is needed for the day pack use . |
I use a haulbag when I expect to drag the pack over a lot of sharp, abrasive rock, and I'm carrying enough cams that padding the sides is impractical. That's actually why I got the haulbag in the first place. |

look into the run out customs DIAD bag, carries well excellent support, comfy straps. |
I'll second what locker said. I have been using a Stubby Haul Bag for my primary climbing bag and I can vouch for how bomber that pack is. I tried using a black diamond axis 33 as a climbing pack before discovering the stubby and I tore through two of those bags in no time flat. The Stubby Haul Bag rules for toughness and durability!!! |
+1 for the BD Stubby! Love mine, BOMBER! |
The Stubby or the Metolius Haul Packs. |

My Fish Atom Smasher (stubby) is VERY tough and durable. However, it is… a pig. If the approach is more than 15 minutes, I am bringing another pack. I almost never carry mine any more, but I like being comfortable and don't mind buying a new pack every now and then. |
This seems a good mix of the two. |

I've carried all three of these bags and found the stubby is by far the most comfortable to carry. The suspension is very beefy. |
