"We are a biking and kayaking town. The nearest climbing is in Buena Vista," said the girl at Salida Mountain Sports. Lies! After searching the hills across the river from Salida, I found several good boulders and six sets of anchors with chains for trad or TR routes on nice granite. No, I'm not talking about the climbing wall at Riverside Park. Is anyone else aware of climbing spots across the river from Salida? Does anyone wish that Salida's climbability remain a secret?

A few years ago I stumbled across someone's sport project in a cave on the right side of the road going up Engineer Pass. Looked hard!

Bouldering abounds in the valley! Why do you think Benningfeild lives there? Stop by Café Dawn in Salida and ask him!

PM me if you like, but I really want to know. I live in BV and work in Salida. I've been on the look out for some quality rock in Salida. Any info would be appreciated.

Pfffft, your routes are hardly worth the drive from the Springs. ;-) Trying to throw some water on the word of mouth there. Yeah, you people in Salida should get a little guide book together for locals only. Put it at a bar and require some sort of secret handshake to look at it.

The landing zones cactus population is only surpassed by the number of rattlesnakes. With rock so chossy you will end up laying on your back amid the above mentioned delights, it is recommended to search elsewhere for your climbing pleasure.
