Gonna tent camp for the week out in the LV area to climb at red rock. Anyone have any good ideas on camping guerilla camping or anything like that?? I have a full setup and can boondock it as well as camp in a tent camping area.. |

What is "guerrilla camping"? Does that mean "Where can I camp for free?" |
|
sweet... you know guerilla camping... |

If you plan on staying somewhere that doesn't have bathrooms. Please, for the love of God, bring something to dispose of your human waste. |

i understand the whole keeping things cheap thing, but why bother camping? there are so many hotel/casinos in the area that you can always find something that is 60 or less a night. to me, it's worth every penny rather than having to deal with sand all week. |

Matt Shepard wrote:Jeff, I like the way you think. I spent a few nights in the Red Rocks Campground and I'm not sure I would every do it again. There are cheap hotels close that if you had a couple of friends to share a room with it would be cheaper then the campground. Shoot me a PM if you want to get out sometime. I have an open schedule like you say you do.Huh? Campground = $15/site/night and most sites can accomodate 4 to 6 people easily. Last I checked, even the dumpy motels I stay in cost $45-60/night and have room for 4 people at most. That is: hotel = 3 to 5 times campground. Add to this that it is tricky to cook dinner in most motels, forcing you to eat out... |

Thats what i'm saying Eric and Lucie, not to mention i am rolling out there with a couple of filled up solar showers and will need to roll back into town a couple of the days anyway to resupply.. $60 x 6 is a lot more than $15 x 6... plus the added gas of driving back and forth each day... |

i lived in redrocks campground for 21 days at one point...then, more recently 12 days. the biggest problem youll face is wind. |
|
also, to actually answer your question...there is no BLM or free style camping anywhere that i know of at redrocks. at less than $2 a night though, its worth it for the water and pooper...otherwise you have to find a way to dispose. |

ok, spent sept 17th-23rd at the red rock campground this year... just last week.. the sand was not a problem and we had some gusty nights... we took showers at the red rock climbing gym 2 times, and if you go up and get a day pass at the lifetime you can use the jacuzzi and stuff there for a day (we didn't do that this time).. we also spent sunday afternoon drinking and succesfully betting on horses at the red rock casino.. all in all i would not hesitate to camp at the red rock canyon campground again.. |

I've met a guy who was telling me about guerrilla camping up some dirt road behind a bar near Blue Diamond or something. Seemed like a pain in the ass to me. I use the campground. |

Ok, I may be unleashing a much coveted secret here but screw it, climbers are all around it every time I've been there: The Las Vegas Leisure center is closer to the campground then the climbing gym (I think you turn left onto Pavilion and go a couple blocks) and they offer $6 weekly memberships. Sooooo....take a shower there. Sorry, no jacuzzis though.no it's no secret... we found out about it on the last day.. lol... we'll be back next year... good thing on the timing of our trip... suck for those people headed out this week... |
