I know one of the best ways to get around the valley is on bikes. I was just wondering how some of you guys deal with the bikes when you're in Camp 4 / locking it up or stashing it before a approach / general bike "safety" (how often bikes get stolen).

You definately need a lock on your bike in the valley, but from my experience it doesn't have to be a super bomber lock, just good enough to keep drunk a-holes from going for a quick ride and ruining your bike.

There is certainly a get away with as much as you can attitude among the climbers AND employees in the valley.

I would ride my bike to El Cap and stash it in the trees, pretty easy to hide, and lock em up. Never had a problem there.

Bikes will just get snagged by someone there if they aren't locked down, but people are also lazy so they won't try to pick your lock.

x2 locking your bike everywhere in the valley . I stashed a nice little mountain bike up in the trees , well out of view , and went and did Harry Daley ... came back and it was gone .

(opinion warning) ... A lot of tweakers and lowlifes come up from the central valley specifically looking for bikes and other easy targets to steal , throw it in the back of the Bronco , put a tarp over it and it's gone ...

Also , make sure you wear a headlight at night , LEO's will stop you if you are riding at night without illumination . A friend of mine got a BUI after being stopped for no light .
