What are the chances of finding partners if you show up alone and wanna climb more days than not?

If not the climbers ranch anyone have any beta on a good place to dirtbag if you are a moderate 5.9 - 5.11 climber and just wanna spend more time climbing than working...

FYI i live in the north east and can get out 2-3-4 days a week and averaging 3 as is so if am not able to get out at least that much it is kinda a waste. I am looking for a place to spend a month at a time on rock once or twice a season with like minded peoples who's main focus is climbing. I have my winter plans solidified so i am just looking for spring summer fall rock options.

I went there by myself in July 2009, and spent two and a half weeks. I did really well with finding partners, although a big part of that was that I got very lucky and met up with a superb, strong, and like-minded climbing partner on day 1. Climbed with him for a week and a half, or so, but after he left I still did ok finding people to climb with. YMMV. One nice thing in the Tetons is that, for partnerless days, there are lots of options for long, fun 4th class / low 5th scramble/solos that you can do by yourself. Overall, the Tetons is probably the only alpine climbing area that you can show up by yourself and find sufficient numbers of partners. Do realize, though, that in the Tetons you will spend more time hiking to the climbs than actually climbing, so you need to be ready for that aspect of it. If you just want to do a lot of rock climbing, go somewhere else. Also, a month there might be a bit long, since you may get tired of all the hiking. After 2.5 weeks, I was ready to leave and do some roadside cragging.

Another place that is fantastic for a long stay in the summer is Squamish. Fairly cheap living there, and extremely easy to find good partners. The climbing ain't bad either...

Thanks for the help. I was hoping this thread would take off but i guess we will see? I asked about the climbers ranch as a few of my older local partners that have visited the ranch over the years suggested it might be a good place for me. It just seems like a big risk taking the time, spending the $$$ to gamble with finding partners.

On the other hand back east where i live it is easy as pie to find good solid weekend partners but weekday partners and people to take extended trips with is rather hard. I have done lots of traveling and imop the north east is a family mans kinda place. It is no surprise really that this is what i am finding as peoples main focus just is not climbing in this part of the country. Most have families and careers that are more important to them in the grand scheme of things. Sure we have a few bad ass climbers but they are few and far between.

I figure there has to be places where people that want to climb more than work congregate to climb following the weather. I have heard the climbing is Squamish is great. Tell me more about the living and people. I just spent two weeks in the Canadian Rockies ice climbing and had a blast. I already have plans to drive out next year and spend six weeks. I have partners for two weeks of it that will fly out and join me and few people i met out there i can contact but the rest is gonna be flying by seat of my pants.

I would just move out west or to a area that is climbing meccaish but it just is not in the cards for me. A few extended stay trip will have to do for me. My thoughts are every 3 months go somewhere for a month? If i can pull that off i will be pretty darn happy!

If you are there the week of June 17th PM me. I'll be there looking for a partner for a day at Cathedral Buttress.

Sounds like you should be in Yosemite though. You won't have an issue finding partners at Camp 4.

Or Boulder. You might not hit alpine every day, but there is a lot of climbing and a lot of partners.

Yeah i just want to get someplace a few times a year where i can climb day in and day out for the most part and get really really good really really quick. Sure i care where i am but more than anything i just care that i am climbing. I used to live in the desert when i raced road bikes and i hated it tbh. Now though i can see the appeal of it living outa my truck and climbing beautiful cracks and towers all day. Maybe i am dreaming and this is just fantasy but i figure people gotta be doing it.

It has been suggested to me to go to Yosemite. When i ask if it a played out scene i kinda get yest answers. I am now 35 and kinda over all that and more into this to see beautiful places, meet quality people and just live a different style life than most desire these days. On the other hand if Yosemite is where the partners are i suppose it is worth considering..

I haven't found Yosemite to be played out or a scene. I found it to be amazing trad climbing and I met some amazing random partners there. J tree also seems to be a place to go and find partners. Not sure about summer though.

For the most part i am looking to extend winter ice season someplace. I think i have that figured out.Beyond that i would like to take a late spring early summer trip followed by a fall trip. Who knows two trips filled in with local climbing may be plenty if my trips long trips.

Not sure about June yet but you never know. I will keep it in mind..

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
