Hi. I'm going to be around Franklin, WI from wed - mon. Is there any climbing around there? How is Jake's rock? Any good gyms to go to? I will only have shoes and a harness. Thanks.

2 hours to Devils Lake. Go. You will find climbers any day of the week there.

Jakes rock is a nice little spot to boulder with a very nice soft landing zone at least 35 problems in the V0- to V5/6 range. It is in a small park with a large outdoor pool that just opened up.

Adventure Rock is out in Pewaukee about 30 minutes from Franklin. Great gym with a friendly scene and plenty of auto belays if you happen to be there when the gym is dead.

Thanks. I will not have a car, so getting away for that long and that far would be hard. Devils lake looks spectacular though. I will try that gym and the boulder. Are the problems fairly obvious, or is it best just to play around on the boulder?

There are 15 or so listed on the Jake's Rock MP page, and plenty of chalk to lead the way, but you can make up endless variations.

By the way and forgive me if it is the reason you are in town but this is pretty much the best week of the year to be in Milwaukee if you like music. Summerfest starts Weds and runs through July 8th.

I'm here for a family reunion, but I plan on getting away to Summerfest at some point.

A-Rock has two main bouldering areas, separate from the roped area. All problems are clearly marked, and there's a lot of them.

Also, if you're going to Milwaukee for the day, you could check out Turner Hall, which has a climbing gym. Both gyms are about the same distance from Franklin.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
