Input on Arc'teryx soft shells

I was recently given a voucher for my choice of Arc'teryx soft shell. I was told that I can select anything from the Softshell page of their website but I've had a difficult time finding anything to try on.

I was also told that if I wanted to get the Acto MX, that they could swing it.

The Mediums seem really big for the size, but the smalls are all slightly short. But it does seem to vary between jackets, which makes it really hard to commit to. I did manage to try on both a SM and MED of the GAMMA, but would want something with a hood, so I'd get the MX, hopefully they are cut the same. With that jacket, the sleeves in the medium felt overly tight compared to the huge torso area.

I'm 5'11" and around 160lbs, typical, experienced climber's shoulders and back but a 30" to 31" waist.

Anyone have any suggestions, on either fit or where I might try something on?

I'm in Boulder, CO for the moment, and have tried Neptune, REI and Moosejaw.

Thanks in advance!

Depends what you are looking for. I have a Gamma LT that I love for late spring - early fall if I'm going out climbing pretty much anywhere. It keeps me warm when it's a bit colder but, is incredibly breathable.

For the cooler times I have the Acto MX. I'll wear it ski touring, alpine climbing and general rock climbing from mid fall to mid spring. In the winter I'll put a hardshell on top of it.

Hope that helps!

Cheers

Love my Gamma MX hoodie. Definitely a lean, athletic cut which works well for some but not others.

Tell em you'll throw in a few extra bones and ask for the Alpha SV

i think i have an old gamma mx hoodie. great jacket, other than the front zipper blowing out 4 times. they replaced the zipper each time (so far).

I am 6'0" and own a alpha sv, beta ar, gamma mx, squamish hoodie, and an atom sv. As far as fitting goes all are medium except the gamma wich is large. They fit me perfect! Almost like they made them custom for me. As for the quality, I have never had a problem with any of them. I climb pretty hard alpine in winter and summer and definetly put them through their paces. I dont own it but I heard the Acto is a great shell, its next on my list. Dont go SV unless your relly planning on beating the shit out of it. My ar performs just as well as the sv. The sv is much more durable/thick/heavy material.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
