I honestly didn't see too much in that video that was egregiously tool-ish. A great TV producer and camera crew could take any of us out on our best days and have a finished product a few weeks later that make us look just as bad, or worse. The next time you're chilling to some reggae and smoking a cig at the bottom of a climb try to imagine how ridiculous it'd look in high-definition slow motion with a voiceover. So fine-- he TR'd a big route in the desert with a film crew. That's more than most weekend-warrior climbers will ever do. The guy may be totally over the top on his show, but there isn't too much doubt that he has a legitimate background in doing some pretty out-there stuff.

What a tool. He was on TR the whole time trying to act like he was lead soloing.

Relaaaaax everyone: "In March 2012, Discovery Channel terminated its productions with Grylls due to contract disputes."
I hate Bear because this very nice lady that once liked me liked him more and in fact was such a sucker for British accents that...she...
[weeps quietly] Nevermind.
OK, who wants pizza?

He may be a tool and he may have been top roped in, but......
How many of us are making tv shows/commercials and getting paid well to do it?
I'll bet he he made more doing that commercial than most of us make in a year... So yes Tool. But Ill be a tool too if they pay me the same.

I generally stay away from television and don't even watch many climbing videos. Watching Grylls here reinforces my belief that most tv sucks - a lot. I can see a big budget shoot here with incredible production resources, but I think it's pretty lame to make him appear to be leading, while trying to hide the top rope. Oh well, I was exposed to the brand name and style of a underarm deodorant, and I suppose that was the producer's sole intent.

I think he was lucky not to have been seriously injured during that show. Maybe it was all staged, sure looked nuts though! I stopped watching after he started eating nastier stuff. But the dude has climbed Everest!

Keenan that video is classic! Have you guys seen the one where he slides down this huge scree slope on his ass, only to trigger a big rock slide that almost kills him?

So I was caught watching the Today show once; interesting when they do the travel-to weeklong segments, it's cool I guess. So anyway they go to Zermatt, friggin wild, and have a tale of two cities. Here's Ueli just talking in a very low key manner about the mountains and climbing; dude is badass. Whoa here comes dumbass, rapping off some structure shooting his mouth off, and going to a 'survival' snowcave a friggin team of twenty obviously dug out with all the amenities you'll never see for snow survival... Yep, tool. I can't figure how many shallow end of the gene dumbasses we get in the hills 'doing the extreme' man vs wild. Really pisses me off when they bring their kids into it -- though the kids actually do better during the evac. I'm glad that guy is off the air.

I didn't actually make up that story. FACT: She did choose a Brit guy over me. So the real pathos is what makes the funny. Listening to her gush about Bear on dates was, special.
