Looks like I might be in Houston for the summer, coming from Boulder, CO. Is there anything good to do outside there, other than hide from the heat? Climbing, biking... fishing...? Any good climbing gyms?

There is NOTHING to climb anywhere near Houston, TX(5 hours till the nearest hill). The climbing gyms are shockingly inadequate for a town with 7 million folks. Go to this place all Summer and be in awe of all the chicks. IMO.

Go to South Padre Island, Big Bend NP, Guadalupe Mountains NP. . .

Just drive to Austin each weekend and climb at Reimer's up 71 or Enchanted Rock down 290. Go back to Austin at the end of the day and have dinner and either motel it or camp. Galveston is worth visiting every once in a while, too. Don't go looking for Gilley's bar, it burned down. Oh, and the Chicken Ranch in La Grange closed in the 70s.

Compared to Colorado Houston is going to suck.

That being said, come see us at Texas Rock Gym while you're in town.

For climbing actual rock you'll have to get over to Austin (~3 hours drive) or Enchanted Rock S.N.A. (~5 hours).

brazos bend, just outside of Houston, is a fun place to spend a day. You can hike around and look at some gators, they also have camping but I don't know why you would want to camp there.

I'd say check out sailing, sea kayaking, salt water fishing etc. I trained for marathons while I was there. Hiking to look at gators and swamp got old fast.

Summer in Texas? Insect hunting could be fun.

Damn, their roaches are gynormous! Imagine putting one, or three of those in your partner's chalk bag. It'd be bad if they discovered it while they are cruxing though. ; /

Seriously, go to the nearest DZ, party like a rockstar and knockout 100 skydives. Move back to Boulder or wherever and start BASE jumping. There really isn't another plan remotely that good, boom.

edit- Def go to Texas Rock Gym all you can as well.

Thanks- I appreciate all the input. I will definitely swing by the gym and climb. And hopefully skydive.
