I'm coming out for a week or two soon and read some post about camping over in lovell canyon. I know it is more remote which I'm ok with, just didn't know how theft was in the area if I'm ok to leave tent/sleeping gear out while I climb in the day. Also, does anyone have beta on the road to black velvet canyon, I read its a good idea to have 4x4, but didn't know if I could tear up my rental sedan out there?? Thanks everyone.

Probably not the best area to leave your stuff, unless you find a good stealth bivy, which are available but need daylight to find, and a Not Alpine Colored Tent.
BVC road is pretty benign. I've driven a minivan out there, and have seen all manner of sedans in the lot, including several Priuses. Just get the $25 insurance if you're unaccustomed to driving dirt roads in a zero-clearance vehicle.
damn it wilder.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
