Hey guys, I was just wondering if there were any good areas for bouldering close to the Provo area. I've been itching to do some real bouldering since all I've really been exposed to is gym bouldering. Seems like it would be a bit more fun, more legitimate.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

World class bouldering in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Also, the West Desert, Joe's Valley, and Triassic.

World class as in, pretty hard stuff? Or world class as in a great variety with many different levels? I'm looking for v0-v3 type climbs.

Depends on what your definition of "close" is. Little Cottonwood is 45 minutes away and the closest good bouldering to Provo. There's tons of V0 to V3 stuff.

The sandstone Price Canyon boulders are also about 45 minutes from Provo and are good fun in the summer, too snowy in the winter.

Rock Canyon has a few problems, as does Little Rock Canyon to the north, but both places pretty much suck for bouldering. There's some more stuff in American Fork, but if you're going that far you might as well go to Little Cottonwood.

And like The Bobby said, if you've got a few hours, that opens up Utah's destination areas of Joe's Valley, Triassic, and Ibex.

This book is the one you want, but it's out of print (that's why it's so expensive). It's the most comprehensive guide out there.

Fair warning, lcc can be hard for newbies. A lot of the easy stuff is not like easy stuff in the gym... I.E. it's either slabby with few features, or really tall.

That being said, the climbing there is awesome and if you can get used to the style, you can become grossly obsessed with it (like some people here).

Joes is a great introduction to outdoor climbing for people who started in the gym. Very similar styles of climbing, and lots of problems to be found.

If you can get your hands on a copy (good luck) the Baldwin, Beck, and Russo Bouldering guide to utah is the bible to bouldering here. Get it, learn it, love it.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
