Hello,

My climbing partner and I are heading to Bariloche on 3/1/2012 (Jan. 3, 2012) and will be staying for about a month. We plan on climbing at Frey and would like to do some sport climbing as well.

We are looking into hostels right now and are curious if any are known for climbers? Also, is it easy to take the bus system to climbing area trailheads?

Thanks for any info you can give!

Hola,

You can take the bus to the ski lifts at Catedral to get to the trailhead to Frey.

Pick up the paper guidebook for Frey at Club Andino uphill from the central park area. There is also a nice hostel near Club Andino but I can't remember the name of it. Sometimes hotel rooms are about the same price as the hostels.

Thanks! We just got the guide book yesterday and are heading up tomorrow!

If anyone else is in the area and would like to climb, my climbing partner is going to be leaving near the end of january and I might stick around if I can find someone to climb with.

Let me know!

Hey Neil,
I'll be arriving in Bariloche on Febuary 2nd and I'm going to be looking for a climbing partner. Any info on places to get climbing info and places to stay would be much appeciated. Just send me a msg when you can as I'm keen to get out climbing as much as possible while I'm there.

Thanks

Nathan

Hey there Nathan!

Bariloche is pretty nice. I´m currently staying at a hostel called Alaska Hostel, it´s about 7.5 km outside of town so it´s far less of a party hostel and more outdoorsy folks. But, no other climbers... as far as finding a partner, there are a Ton of climbers up at frey and a lot of them speak english, if you don´t speak spanish or portugese (many are brazilian). As far as sport areas I´ve only explored Trembol area a bit, it was good, but the super great climbing sounds like it´s on cero otto, i think someplace called piedras blancas, or something like that. And Frey is absolutely wonderful if you´re interested in hiking your stuff up there and staying for awhile.

I´m heading to Cochamo next with some friends so I won´t be around anymore when you arrive, but there are plenty of people to climb with at Frey. Have a good time!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
