Henderson NV climbing

Does anyone know of some good climbing that's close to Henderson nv. Anything from bouldering, sport, or trad. I've lived here for a while and haven't found any established areas but I have seen areas with potential. I know of an area by lake mead toll station and a few spots outside of boulder city but want to find something closer in this area. If anyones familiar with this part of town, I live at the base of black mountain at the very end of horizon ridge.
I've checked out some of the areas close to this but it seems kinda flakey and loose. If anyone else has explored around here and found some good stuff let me know I'd like to check it out. Also has this part of town been in any guidebooks? Thanks.

Ummm... This may be violating guideline #1, but Red Rocks is kinda in your backyard.

I'm assuming he knows that, he has rebel without a pause listed as one of his fav. climbs which is at the 2nd pullout... maybe he means actually in henderson.

Yes I do know about red rocks I climb there often. There and mt charleston. Like nick said I'm looking for stuff in the Henderson area closer than red rocks. I do enjoy climbing there but driving across the whole valley isn't very enjoyable. I'd like to stay on this side of town if it's even possible.

Big sandy has a few good boulders out there, both the bouldering guidebooks have a small section for it. I never found anything fun at black mountain but there are boulders around. I think were stuck driving a bit to the good stuff!

I hadn't heard of big sandy until your post so I had to google it and I found an older thread on mp about bouldering there and there are mixed opinions of the area but it's worth checking out I suppose since I'm short on options. Only downfall is I'm not clear on where exactly it's at. I'll attach the link from the other thread if anyone else wants an easy look. But if you've got an easy direction for me I'd like to hear it.

I do hope that us Henderson dwellers can turn up something decent to climb on. Id hate to turn to urban climbing on buildings and structures when I have the urge to climb and a lack of will (or time) to make the drive to the canyon or red rocks.

I've actually checked out the stuff in keyhole canyon off this site and plan on going there hopefully in the near future if I can talk my regular climbing partner into going.

As for the stuff near the Arizona hot springs, I've come across a few places while out hiking in the area but haven't had the chance to climb anything. One spot I'm real curious about but can't find any info about is a spot in a canyon called boyscout canyon outside of boulder city. You go past the dump and a shooting range in bc and follow a dirt road a ways. Once the road stops at a small fence you take a fairly easy hike through some trails and washes to a spot that rappells maybe 25 ft. Once down there is another long rappel that I've heard is around 330 ft but I'm not positive on that. I don't know if it's an established climb back up or if it's set up just to rappel down (maybe as a multipitch rappel) but it looks like it would be quite fun. If anyone knows what I'm talking about that would be awesome to hear from you. Again what I've heard about it is very vague so anything that clears it up would help.

Also anyone living in Henderson that wants to explore/climb with me just let me know. I don't have many partners to climb with so I'm always down to make a new friend and climbing partner.

There is a place right near Railroad Pass (Henderson side) Called 'MannyLand". It is nothing special rock quality wise, but...

Im going to go check that out in a few minutes actually and also go find big sandy I know right where that's at. But the mannyland climbing, is that accessed by parking at the casino right there?

I just went to check out big sandy out in the hills off racetrack and I followed a paved bike path until I could see a water tower from the top of a hill and wasn't real sure if this was the right direction to head with little light left. Was this in the general right direction or do I need to keep heading straight towards the mountains?
Also, Trundlebum I pulled into the parking lot for the railroad casino and I drove up the dirt road to the train tracks and looked around a bit. What direction should I head or am I in a wrong area all together?
Another side note if anyone is interested there is a spot real close to my house that I've gone bouldering at a few times. There's not a ton but it works to practice some moves. Take horizon ridge up past horizon drive to mission. Turn right at the mission intersection then the immediate left. Follow that up to sandy drive. Turn right and follow it to the dirt. The stuff I'm talking about is on the ride hand side once you park.

Some chossy bouldering up in jailhouse, out in jean. Wouldn't recommend it

Yep it's sharp and treacherous rock. However the abundance of rsource with relatively short drive time makes it a pretty good place especially during the winter months.

I know just this winter season Joe Smith, Nathan Lee and a handful of others have been out there putting up quite a number of new problems. Joe is extremely stoked... and that's a statement unto itself.

Word back from Garret:
I guess he found Mannyland and spent a little time there. Mannyland, now that's choss, but five minutes from the Boulder Highway.

Trundlebum is correct I found mannyland and had some fun out there. I took an odd way out from wagonwheel using a satellite image and eventually got there but I got to do some fun climbing in my truck as well. The few routes at mannyland are fun and there's lots of potential for more around the area. Im hoping to make it back out there soon and explore a bit on the adjacent rocky hill and see if I can put something new up. Thanks for the info on this area it works great since it's within 10 minutes from my door step.

The stuff out at Jean is the same chossy rock that's basically out my back door. Takes a bit of work to get an area cleaned up enough that it won't fall apart underneath you. But I can always head out there and climb a bit then stop by the jail where my crazy aunt happens to be locked up!

hey Garrett, i would love to go out climbing with ya some time. I would like to take a look at Mannyland. Anyways, Boy Scout canyon, this is the info from the canyoneering meetup when they did this.

this is a beginning canyoneering canyon with lots of smaller dryfalls and a couple of smaller water falls as we get closer to the River and run into the hot springs. Bring some extra shoes if you don’t want out hike out with wet feet. The trip down to the River is fun but the hike out is a pain in the butt with a 1900’ elevation gain in about 3 miles. You will need a lunch and snacks as well as plenty of water. This canyon will take about 8-10 hours round trip. THERE IS A 375’ DRYFALL THAT YOU CAN GO DOWN IF YOU ARE WILLING TO CARRY 800’ OF ROPE. I’m NOT taking this group down that way but I will show any of you who want to give it a try where it is. We will meet you down at the bottom and cheer you on. You will have to carry the rope about 2 miles in and can pick it up on the way out.

How high are the climb potentials in Mannyland? Is it bolted anchors and easily found routes , or just new rock in need of building anchors? Anyone got better directions after you leave the pavement, I want to go check this place out.
