Airlines and climbing chalk

Has anyone ever had issues with airlines and bringing climbing chalk in their baggage? Also, anyone have any good ways to pack chalk? I'm thinking just a ziplock. Thanks.

I just flew this last weekend with a full chalk bag and a full rack (including a nut tool) without incident. You shouldn't have any problems.

Never had a problem and always double bagged with a zip lock

I have never had problems with checked baggage. TSA usually inspects the bag destroys the organization of equipment and adds there inspection card. I have carried my rack in a carry on the past few months and have had issues only in area that have a small active climbing community. SLC, Reno, Puerto Rico and Sacramento airports were great. TSA asked what’s in the bag and when I explained they never opened it. Flying to Milwaukee and anywhere in the south is a different story. I have just been leaving the chalk in the chalk bag with the pull string as tight as it will go. In Atlanta TSA opened my carry on and chalk dust went everywhere but no problems. After a little explanation I was on my way. I think the chalk looks less suspicious in a chalk bag. A zip-lock full of powder could place a different type of attention on your bags. The TSA agent in ATL said to place all cams and gear in to a bin to be screened to avoid the probe. I fly over 8 times a month, have tattoos and a huge beard TSA and know each other very well.
Good luck and safe travels

I've never had any problems, even flew in and out of Mexico with no questions. I have lost two nut tools however.

When flying with the rack, was it checked or carry-on?

Never had an issue. Always had chalk in combo with climbing shoes, and, usually a harness too, though.

I've carried on chalk a bunch.

Well on my way to my second million miles...

I've been searched in Wisconsin because I had a ziploc baggie of chalk in my passenger seat. It sure doesn't help that I have a tattoo on my forearm and had longer shaggy hair at the time, but shit happens. I would suggest leaving some label or something on it, like the packaging it came in.

I've never had issues with chalk, but my friend Mico has had the TSA inspect his bottle of Bison chalk (read: pour out a little, drop some unknown chemicals on it, sniff it) on our way to Atlanta once. They didn't have any problems with it and they were satisfied to let him carry it on. I had a full chalkbag in the same TSA line and had no problems.

Put it in a midsize plastic ziplock. Then put that in a large plastic ziplock. Then fill the excess space with ground coffee. Wrap that in foil, dip it all in parafin, and your ready to go.

I think you also want a pocket mirror and a razor blade.

Just hide it in your underwear, works like a charm.

Then tape it to your belly and fly to Turkey. With any luck the in-flight movie will be Midnight Express.

I forgot to ask; is this a big block of chalk, or a small amount of chalk... cus you work with a small amount from a totally different angle.

Camp... is it a BLOCK of chalk. If so,remove it from the paper, take apiece of red string or wire and a 1/4 inch screw and push the wire into the chalk. On the other side of the block, push a screw with a black wire into the chalk. Now take the wires and run them to a cell phone. Wrap some electric tape around it so the wires stay with the phone. Tape them together, then put that in a ziplock and put that in the top of your back pack.
This is fun.

If its a small amount of chalk, get a balloon, put the chalk in the balloon, tie a knot in the end, then tie a piece of thread around the end of the balloon. Rub some KY on the ballon, and shove it up your ass, with the end of the thread barely hanging out. You should be good to go.

Use a Magnum condom or two Trojans. KY is correct... do NOT use vaseline.

Mannitol (baby laxative) can be added to increase the volume of your chalk.
Where are you going? I have a buddy who needs to deliver a few large blocks of chalk to some friends of his.

It's a small amount. Half a chalk bag.

Why haven't I seen this. Gold.

I had a airline see my nut tool than do a full pat down due to the climbing chalk / climbing nut tool flagging as possible explosive. After they did a full plat down / check of me i went through no problem.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
