Does anyone have any info about camping during the winter near Hyalite. i noticed that the Langohr Campground is along hyalight canyon road, along with the Chisholm and Hood Creek campgrounds. I know in Colorado, Forest Service campgrounds like that are free in the winter, however i don't know what they allow in Montana.
Any info on those campgrounds or better places to camp would be great!
There is no camping allowed in Hylite during the winter. I tried last year and was surprised by the enforcement. Although polite, I had note at my site stating the closest legal camping is at the KOA in town. Good Luck!!
Setting up a tent or sleeping in your car? I've definitely seen some folks up there sleeping in their vans. I always thought camping and ice cragging would be a pain in the butt trying to get stuff dry and warm up. Why not split a cheap hotel in Bozeman with your partner(s). Bozeman is a summer tourist destination and I'm sure there are some deals to be found in the winter.

Did the forest service leave you the note? i would have thought that at least back country camping would be fine as long as it was within forest service regulations for dispersed camping. I also noticed that the window rock and maxey cabin are reservable all winter long...
