A friend of mine is filming a movie and he needs one of his actors to hang from the ceiling simulating flight. He is filming in a studio so it has a grid on the ceiling that can support the weight but he's wondering what else he's going to need to make it happen. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with stuff like this and could give some advice. I was also wondering if there are special types of harnesses needed to make something like this work and if so where would you find one/ does anyone have one there willing to part with.
I would imagine you wouldn't want any climbing equipment for this application. You would probably use steel carabiners, steel cable, and a body harness. Have you looked for info about theatre rigging? I think it's a profession unto itself.
I would suggest checking with Frequent Flyers, an aerial arts group in Boulder. They do a lot of rigging for their shows, which of course include some flying type moves as well as lots of other aerial dance.
The harness for bungee work at least is different. I can attest to it being much more comfortable for the flying position, flips, etc. since I took a class there where I got to use both it and a climbing harness.
