St. George Camping

I had reservations for the City of Rocks from the 7th to the 11th, but the weather has gone to hell in a handbasket.

So I'm looking at other options in St George, and Snow canyon is booked. Any ideas? This is my last horaah with family and friends before moving out of the state.

I camped out by the Woodbury Rd. area the last time I went there. It is BLM land out that way.

I'm fond of camping near Prophecy Wall... although there's only a few spots.

Chuckawalla Trailhead is easy and has restrooms.
Car camp only.

Gunlock Reservoir is an option outside of st george

I'll give you beta on where NOT to camp - dont camp out at Sand hollow state park. That place was miserable. Super expensive, the people were complete assholes, and the camping itself was fugly. Just dont do it!

Where can't you camp in the St. George area? Seriously, every dirt road in the entire county goes someplace awesome and is all public. Pick a road, drive till you're somewhere cool and set up a tent.

Lots of campsites by Moe's Valley, easy access right near town.

The BLM has suggested camping off the Curly Hollow Road area in Bloomington. This is about 6 miles away from Moes,(way closer than Prophesy Wall) just west of town. Some of you may know the Bearclaw Poppy Mtn. bike trail, it ends at Navaho drive in Bloomington. If you get there continue on the gravel road, northwest, until you come to wide open desert that is appropriate for dispersed camping. Camping is permitted up to 14 days there too.

The Southern Utah Climbers Alliance and St. George climbing advocates ask you do NOT camp at Moe's Valley.

Unfortunately, Moe's isn't on BLM land, the alliance and friends have worked hard to keep this and other areas open. They worry if the area continues to get trashed, it's efforts and their relationship with the State Trusts will be more difficult or unavailable.

I'd say head out onto Woodbury Road, near Black and Tan. Tons of good spots out that way, quiet, really pretty.
