just drove by on I-5 and it looks like there is tons of climbing to be had out there, but I can't find anything on this site or any others. Anyone know if it is giant choss-pile or been developed? Looks like a nice hike regardless, is now on my to-do list.

nhparker,

when i lived in ashland I climbed the table rock formations a few times. It along with powell butte near ashland were both good climbing opportunities with iffy access. Combine that with the border crags like Dunsmuir wall and Liquor Store wall, you have the less than trafficed other half of the local areas.

From working at the SOU gym at the time, and connecting with local climbers, the Greensprings, Rattlesnake, Emigrant, Acid Castle, Williamson Cliffs - because these areas all offered amazing opportunities they recieved the lions share of potential and access concerns. Powell is on private, not sure if table rock is private or not, but with all the other gems in the area you just don't hear about it getting climbed much.

There are a number of 3rd and 4th class gullies to gain top of table. from there top-roping with tree anchors isn't too hard. Never ran into bolts.

Unlike the routes of Greensprings and Rattlesnake, I don't remember table rock routes being very standout. Dunsmir and liqour store crag are both more worthy "poaches", as they offer higher quality lines for your time.

All that being said - if you sport climb 10a go to Rattlesnake. All the advantages of quality smith sport with no smith crowds!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
