The Summit Hut return policy is pretty standard. Maybe expand on what you find bad about it? Summit Hut Return Policy If you are unhappy with your item, for any reason, you may return it for an exchange or a refund. Our primary goal is the satisfaction of our customers. We pride ourselves in making sure you are prepared for your next adventure. Whether it's a morning hike on a local trail or the mountaineering trip of a lifetime, we want you to have the best time possible. A huge part of that is having the right gear Moosejaw Return Policy MOOSEJAW GUARANTEE If you aren't thrilled with your purchase, return it AT ANY TIME as long as IT'S IN SELLABLE CONDITION and as long as you aren't dead. If you are dead, your heirs can still return the goods but they should probably keep them in your honor. We encourage you to walk on your carpet in your boots before taking them on the trail. Try your pack on with weight before you head to the mountains. We are fully available to answer all your questions and advise you. We were voted "Best Virtual Boot, Clothing, Gear fitters" by made up customer #323. Load bearing climbing equipment like a harness or carabiner, and all Gift Cards, are final sale and cannot be returned. So, if you don't like your climbing stuff just hang it on your wall to impress your friends and if you don't want your Gift Card, use it as a ruler. Bentgate Return Policy Most* items carry a 30 day money back guarantee! If an item does not fit or is not what you were expecting, it may be exchanged or returned for a full refund. Items must be in new condition with original packaging. Please only wear footwear indoors while deciding if it will work for you. You will be responsible for the shipping charges required to return the item to us in Golden, CO. We recommend using a service with tracking and insurance, such as UPS or FedEx. Our 30 day return policy gives you time to decide if the product is right for you, while enabling us to sell the item in season if you decide it isn’t just what you’re looking for. - NOTE: Due to the nature of some products, no returns or exchanges are possible. This includes: Safety Equipment—including but not limited to harnesses, ropes, cord, climbing hardware (cams, nuts, carabiners, quickdraws, etc), slings, runners, helmets;

Since when does Summit Hut do returns on climbing gear? Maybe the pressure of having REI there helped change that... How does that work anyway, for any of the retailers: what do they do with returned climbing gear? So when you order something from REI or Summit Hut, it might be a piece of gear that someone returned? Do they inspect it or have it re-tested?

I had a good experience when I ordered a harness off of summit hut last november. I ordered a harness that was 40% off on thursday afternoon and when I woke up on saturday morning it had already arrived. I'll definitely order from there again

When I'm in Tucson, I go to Summit Hut for my gear. Well, it depends on where I am in Tucson. If I'm closer to REI then I go there, otherwise I go to Summit Hut. I haven't had issues with Summit Hut with returns, sales, or service. But I agree with BASE1361, the staff there don't know much. I personally try to go to REI if possible because I get points for spending money there.

Have always had issues with them on returning items. I bought a pair of shoes that just did not fit right and try to return them but was unable to, due to some assine policy. The only reason I continue to shop there is because people are always giving me Summit Hut gift cards. The staff is hit or miss at best and very stuck up.

It is just what it says on the Summit Hut website. As far as I know climbing gear is still "all sales final".

I try to shop at Summit Hut because I would rather support a local business than a national chain.

I found the staff to be very helpful, but they didnt know their stuff.I asked for things and they didnt even know what they were. I dont go to Rei either. Well I did once. I am partial to small business. So I order online now. I expect a local store to be better about returns. I dont expect to wait for an item while they send it back because of a defect. I believe the consumer should never be inconvenienced by the store. If I pay for something and it doesnt work I expect it to be replaced. Not sent away to be repaired. They business can deal with that and replace my item. Then resale as used item. Otherwise I can by it online and save money and get the same service. Im sorry but I am done doing business with this company. If I gave that kind of service in my occupation I would be out of business. Oh I found the folks to be equally ignorant at REI. The chinese superstore oh summit hut is too. I SUGGEST CHECKING OUT "WILD THINGS" THEY MAKE GREAT OUTDOOR CLOTHING AND ITS MADE BY AMERICANS,IN N.H.

Why would anyone shop at Summit Hut? 1. Because they ARE local. 2. Because they employ local climbers. 3. Because they contribute to every cause and event that they're asked to (the Cochise Cleanup, Beanfest), even the last-minute ones. Who here went home with some free gear this past weekend? (Hand raises.) REI told us to piss off when we asked them to contribute to the Cochise Cleanup, because we're not a 501(c)3 non-profit. REI won't contribute to the local community unless they can write it off. 4. Because they give us opportunities to get together as a community. Who here went to Banff? (Hand raises.) When's the last time REI brought something like that to town? 5. Because they donate money to local charitable organizations. Remember those big checks they gave away at Banff? 6. Because they give awesome discounts when you buy multiples of expensive climbing gear items. 10% off when you buy 3 or more items of active pro, 10% off when you buy 6 or more carabiners/quickdraws, etc. REALLY helps to keep the costs down when folks like me who're just building a rack try to get started. 7. No shipping. 8. No return shipping. I'd imagine that, since Summit Hut was just sold to a long-time employee (I guess that "not-so-hidden policy" didn't apply to everyone), things will be changing somewhat for the better in the employee hiring/retention department.
For some people, nothing is ever good enough; they'd find a way to complain about winning the lottery. Know anyone like that? (Hand raises.)

You would use them for one of two reasons: 1) You like keeping your money local by supporting a good local business. 2) You're a girl that wants to get hit on, not sure if this has changed but the guys there seem to be a joke among girls for hitting on everybody. I can't afford to shop there but they have really good pricing on webbing so I buy that and some other consumables there.

I tend not to write posts on forums but there have been some questions posted earlier and at least one person asked for clarifications so… The Summit Hut does in fact take back any gear (including climbing gear) for any reason as long as you have your receipt (that way we know it was actually purchased from us.) We do not get credit from our vendors for this returned/used gear and we just accept it as a loss. Climbing gear returns are often destroyed because we cannot accept liability of something being wrong with it and in no way wish to resell used or tested gear. It would be great if we could gift it or donate it to an organization or individual but we are worried about the potential liability (although we are looking into liability waiver to change that.) As for repairs, yes, if you own the gear for awhile and have had good use out of it, we try to repair it first as it helps prevent filling the landfill with unnecessary waste. It also helps us keep prices in check by not accumulating as much loss from giving away new gear. Certainly though, we will uphold our policy if someone has their receipt and they are unable or do not wish to have their item repaired. The Summit Hut may not be the shop for everyone and I totally get that but we do try hard to provide good service and products to Tucsonans and our customers on-line. As a locally owned retailer we feel strongly about giving back to our community by donating gear, money, and our staff’s time to various causes and local organizations. We may not be the best in communicating everything we do (this weekend we will participating at 3 local events) but out community, our customers, and our employees are the part of our culture that makes us who we are. I really do appreciate reading comments on these forums- it helps us determine how we can improve- so thanks for the feedback and I hope this clears up some ambiguity out there. (And for those of you that do shop with us- thank you!) Dana Davis Owner, Summit Hut Ltd.

Dana, Is Brigette correct in stating you just purchased Summit Hut? If so congrats and I hope things go well for you. I'm sucking up because I'm the new Beanmaster and will be begging for freebies in the fall. :-)

Dana, Really cool post. I will visit your store for sure when I get down that way. No store is perfect but with an involved owner things can only get better. Dallen
