Wild Iris Question?

Currently planning my yearly WY climbing trip and was considering climbing at Wild Iris. My question would be is Wild Iris suitable for kids? I take my kids to Tensleep every year and yes I have to choose my spot or have other adults with us but it's worth it and I've had very few problems. Is the base of of the routes flat or roughly flat? It doesn't look from the pictures that it's too bad, any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Wild Iris is great for kids. Virtually all of the crags have nice flat bases, and loose rock is nearly non-existent. You will want to put some thought into crag selection. The Aspen Glade is a long hike and lacks shade. Zorro, the Erratic, or the Main Wall are all great choices. Obviously be on the lookout for thunderstorms or high wind. Snow or severe hail is also a possibility, even in the summer. I assume rattlesnakes are a possibility but I've never seen one there.

Thanks Mono, exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Sounds way more kid friendly than Tensleep.

2nd that there is great kid terrain at nearly every base. The hike to the main crag is a little long for young walkers, and be ready for what the weather might throw your way.

I've seen rattlesnakes at Wild Iris but then, it's Wyoming. They're everywhere. Aside from that it'd be a great place to take kids.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
