Numbness in tip of big toe

So I have suffered from this off and on for years: the tips of my big toes going numb. No tingling or pain, just numb, and really only the very tips (that which is beyond the toe nail). Normally some massage or kicking/tapping would get rid of it in a few minutes. This might have onset from a recent trip to red rocks a couple weeks ago. It's my left big toe and hasn't gotten better for about two weeks. I think my shoes aren't TOO tight, but they are definitely not exactly comfortable to wear on multipitch routes, but do stretch out after a pitch or two and get pretty comfy (they are old and worn in).

It is really annoying... never had it last this long. Anyone ever have this, and gotten medical care for it? Any advice?

You'd be wise to see a neurologist if you can. I had very similar if not identical symptoms starting in my mid thirties. Lets just say I wish I had seen a nerve doctor a long time ago.

Pinched nerves often take time to heal.

Have you analyzed all aspects of the onset of numbness? -- specific shoes, frequency, route length (always multi-pitch?), type - slabs, vertical, pockets, cracks, etc.?

I say your shoes are probably the culpit and suggest you try another pair for comparison.

It happens regardless of the shoes I wear (climbing, running, hiking, walking, etc...), but of course cold tight climbing shoes especially aggravate it seemingly... but it has never lasted for more than a few minutes... going on about 2 weeks now... guess I'll make a dr appt.

Thanks for the feedback!
