City of Rocks, BLM camping recommendation?

Around 3 or 4 of us looking to crash on BLM outside of City of Rocks for a couple of nights.

I got the map out and it appears the place is surrounded by BLM land. Any spot with an existing fire pit and/or close to facilities (am-bathroom, gas, additional food supplies if required)?

Why don't you "splurge" and camp in the City itself? If there are 3 or 4 of you, that works out to a few dollars each per night. How much are you going to spend in gas getting there and back from St. George? I don't get it.

That said, there is USFS land just to the north of the City where you can camp for free. No amenities (toilets, water, tables, fire pits). The BLM has camping to the southeast of the City, but this is overflow camping, and might require a fee. Again, no amenities.

close to amenities no but if coming from the north you drive through almo and pass the turn to the city, the road will turn into dirt, you will pass a cattle gaurd and immediately turn right on a blm road. good luck.

If the NPS site is up-to-date that totals $80 for 4 nights. Two vehicles. We just want options. Maybe BLM the first night when we arrive or something.

The NPS website is not up to date. Or, rather, it is inconsistent. The second car fee is listed as $8 in some places, and $5 in others. I think it is $5. Regardless, $5 a night per person is pittance. The camping in the City of Rocks is outstanding. It is everything that 13-Mile Campground in Red Rocks is not. You won't regret spending the money to stay there. Depending on when you are going, you may even want to reserve a campsite. Post up on here what you are looking for in a campsite and maybe some of us can recommend a good one for you.

Like Ted said, keep going through Almo until the road turn to dirt, go over two cattle gaurds, turn right directly after the second one. Then go up the rough gravel road and go for the second or third site on the left (the first one gets windy and has no trees. These sights are good because you go through Almo on the way to the City and can pick up supplies.

As of last month, all state camping in the great state of Idaho now require an $8 second car fee. As lame as it might be, the state parks are severely underfunded and are trying to figure out how to keep the amazing quality of camping the same with out limiting the number of sites at the City or closing some of the smaller parks all together.

Leaving a car out of the City is always an option. Park you second in town and get comfortable with your climbing partners while squeezing in one car.

I've camped in the city and outside. If you're poor like me, you'll probably want to camp on BLM land. If you drive past the twin sisters parking lot/group site for about 1/4 mile the road will make a hard right. If you have 4wd take a hard left and follow the old road to wherever looks suitable. You can also go further down the main road and find a dirt road turning off to the right after the parking lot/ restrooms. Not sure about legality of these options but we never had any problems except for nosy cattle. We poached showers at the new RV site just between alma and the city. There are 3 things in life you should never pay for: water, camping, and sex.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
