Ball's Pyramid
|
Does anyone happen to know the access status of this thing? Mostly closed, I believe, since the 90's, but there was a review of its situation going on. Mostly curious, with a bit of dreaming thrown in. |
|
Last I heard there was a review of access during the middle of last year by the Department of Environment and Climate Change. Not sure what the outcome was from this .... read here: Lord Howe Island Permanent Park Preserve SE ridge... the classic route SW face NW ridge NE face |

Is it 3600' from sea level to the top? |
|
565m (1844ft) high. |

Burt Lindquist wrote:"Recreational rock climbing is prohibited on Balls Pyramid and on areas above walking tracks (e.g. on the cliff above the Lower Road)." Wow! There is actually a road or even a walking trail on this formation? Seems very improbable.Nah... they're actually talking about Lord Howe Island in general with that statement. Ball's Pyramid is a stack off the island's coastline and included in the park preservation. |

Whoops. Ya- I got it. I have always been intriqued by Ball's Pyramid. Tallest sea stack known to man(?) and gotta be one of the more remote. It's visible on Google Earth for sure and even Google Maps. |

You can check out a fair bit of first-hand experience and climbing tales from the fellas on chockstone.org ... just search Balls Pyramid. |
