Teton Boulder Project official groundbreaking

The Teton Boulder Project is a grassroots partnership between the Town of Jackson, Teton County Parks and Recreation Department and the Teton climbing community to build a bouldering park in Phil Baux Park at the base of Snow King Mountain.

The objectives of the TBP are as follows:
1. The first—to honor the historical role of Teton climbing in North American mountaineering—is represented by a metal retaining wall, into which the twelve most significant Teton mountaineering achievements will be inscribed.
2. The second—to remember climbers who have died in the Tetons and while climbing abroad—is represented by a circular form that mimics the stone structure atop the Enclosure, a subsummit of the Grand Teton. The TBP’s use of a similar ring will create a contemplative space that allows park users to reflect on the power of the Tetons as well as on the loss of loved ones who have perished in their midst.
3. The boulders themselves comprise the TBP’s third objective: to create a singular climbing experience. The boulders, which will be constructed by Entre Prises, will be a maximum of 12 feet high and feature climbing from 5.5 to 5.15.

On Wednesday, August 11, at 6 p.m., we will officially put a shovel in Phil Baux Park at the base of Snow King in Jackson, Wyoming, to begin construction. Burgers, brats and beer will be served as the Teton climbing community gathers in celebration. Spread the word, and we'll hope to see you there.

What an awesome idea! Be nice to have some real rock though. Wishing you the very best! It should definitely attract climbers and visitors like the Cowboy Bar attracts barflies. I like the memorial aspect of it as well.

Do you have a list of those who will be memorialized? That might be a difficult thing. Like you'll have the great one Dwight Bishop named for sure, but how about .....say, Willie Unsoeld?

Any comments as to how the bouldering and vibe is here? I saw the park and boulders but just assumed is was a little kids play area, fully equipped with screaming and dogs and them boom boxes everywhere. I have never seen a park like this for people who actually climb!

At times you have to deal with some kids or tourists in dirty boots but the routes are great. I have met several good partners there. Check out town pump on Tuesday nights

I happened to be there yesterday.  It's really nice, a variety of problems, including different sized cracks.  Some tourists wandering around but the crowd generally consisted of "real" climbers.
