We have a 2 year old and while he is not climbing yet we need to get a harness to keep him in check while at the cliffs with not so good bases.

Opinions?
Petzl?
Singing Rock?
Camp?

Thanks

I like the full body harness for wee ones of that age. That way you're not pulling their lower body out from under them. Since they're not going to be putting a whole lot of stress on the gear, about anything will do.

We've got a Petzl full body kids harness for our 5 year old and we like it. We bought it last year and she's climbed in it a few times. It must be pretty comfortable - she made me carry her through REI by the anchor points because she didn't want to take it off. It was pretty amusing when I had to pick her up for the cashier to scan the tags.

We bought a petzl harness. The one with the two stitched cords for tieing in. We took it back (REI) b/c it put everything in our daugher's face. She's 2.5 yrs old.

now we have the CAMP harnes, with single tie in point. We like it much better and think it will last until she's pretty tall.

Full body for sure!
We are leaning towards the CAMP one right now.

I'd tie a swami with leg loops from 1" tubular webbing, and tie it high on their belly under the rib cage. That's how our kids started climbing. Hmmm. Maybe that's why only three out of seven still climb...

Another vote for the CAMP. Make sure you don't try to fit it like a normal harness, the strap that you would normally think of as your waist belt should be up in the tummy to rib range. This keeps the shoulder straps in place and keeps them upright when hanging on the rope.

I think the Petzl harness is better suited for older/larger kids.

I'm a fan of the Mammut Elefantito, and I think they just "improved" the design.

Does Trango still make a kids body harness? The one I have is sweeet, pulls both sides together with a tie in or large wide carabiner in front. Comfy for 'hanging belay' kind of child care, as in from a tree branch near your belayer. It's like a little swing for kids!

hey coop,

I've got the Trango Apache full body harness and you can have it for the cost of shipping.

It's only taken a few leader falls by my ex-toddler who is almost 14 now. OK, just kidding, no leader falls. It's in good shape.

Used to tie her to a tree and put the gri-gri on.

Well if coop doesn't take you up on that I will. If not anyone else have their old kids body harness they want to sell?

+1 on the Trango kids harness. I chose it over the petzl because of adjustability.

I sent you an email, thanks!

Trango harnesses get our votes. Kids 7, 12, 14 have all used 'em along with friends, relatives.

Anyone have a extra Trango or Camp kids harness to sell? We have a 2.5 year old who could use one.

I just wanted to put in a good word for the Singing Rock harness. Our daughter, who is 9 now, spent many happy hours in it, and got great delight in me carrying her around by the belay loops even when we were not climbing. All with no complaints. It fit her til she was 8, btw - although the webbing ends were getting pretty close to the buckle by then.

I have a 3 year old daughter who has been visiting crags with us since she was 3 months old. Limits where we climbing and what kind bases we can handle, but she has full body harness. She actually ask to wear it even she doesn't want to climb. Sometime she just wants to swing. (long sling from a tree branch, or on our top rope after we lower off. We choose Trango Junior Harness.

We tried some with padding in the stores, but they were to bulky for her to be comfortable. We also wanted something we could adjust as she got older. She loves to swing in it.
