Lincoln, Nebraska... climbing?

Hey!

I am moving to Lincoln, NE this coming July after living the awesome nomadic life, and I'm hoping that there is some climbing here. I'm psyched on sport, trad, bouldering, any climbing outdoors really, so if you're in Nebraska and have any beta on places to go, definitely give me a shout. I'm psyched to see what's out there in the flatlands!

Cheers and happy sending!

Ha! Climb the missiles at the SAC museum maybe.

You're in climbing nowhereland in Lincoln unfortunately. Closest crags are probaly found Palisades State Park in South-Eastern South Dakota: mountainproject.com/v/south…
Or Blue Mounds State Park in South-Western Minnesota:

There's climbing in Iowa too, just not sure how close it is to Lincoln, or if it's closer than the two crags above.

In a fast car you can make it to Eldorado Canyon in less than seven hours.

Could be worse.

But if you climb ice, I did read an article about ice routes up near Valentine.

There's not really any outdoor climbing in Nebraska, unfortunately. Your best bet is to join the University of Nebraska-Lincoln rec center, and meet the crew out there. The wall's not huge, but it's full of great people who are psyched on the sport, and they love to travel. If you can't stand gym climbing, then your next closest climbing areas are Blue Mounds, Minnesota, for some fun quartzite topropes, and Rock City, Kansas, for a small bouldering field of easy rocks. The Palisades in MN is an option as well.

Yep, no outdoor climbing in Lincoln, but a surprisingly great group of local climbers. I learned to climb there while attending UNL, and I treated Eldorado Springs as my "local" crag. Now in Boulder, I think I actually climb less, funny how that works.

Thanks for the advice!
