Mod Gripping Quarry in Gloucester, MA

Do any of you old MA climbers (or new ones) know what the deal is with the Mod Gripping Quarry on Atlantic St, Exit 13 off 128?

It is mentioned in Boston Rocks II as having Captain Crunch, a pretty sweet looking 5.10.

The apparent problem is sketchy access (surprise, surprise). A friend of mine was scolded by an unhappy woman when he was setting up a toprope and we weren't sure if she was actually the landowner or just some local looking to brew up a conflict.

Has anyone climbed there or know about the current access issues? I'd really like to try out that 5.10 but don't want to stir the pot more if there are complications with the owners.

Well I'm not THAT old but. This area has always had issues as do a lot of areas up there. I don't know if things have changed that much but i doubt it.
At least a ton of other places exist on Cape Ann

Hey John - Yeah, things don't really change much in Cape Ann, except that they're trying to rebuild the bridge without having to close it...a 3 year project.

Did you ever climb Captain Crunch? At least fill me in on what I'm missing out on if you have.

You're right though, there are lots of other things to climb in the area, just not many that are tall enough to require a rope besides Redrock -sigh-. Nothing makes me miss Colorado like battling the bugs and the humidity on short sharp granite. Character building to say the least.

JSH - that's a good idea that I hadn't thought of, I know I ran across them out in Western MA and they seemed to be very nice, accommodating people.

I did CC with Herb Stillman- have you methim ? He knows more about Cape ann than anyone. I'll try to get an address.

A good route but not great. I like Doug,s Roof andLaughing Gull way better.
