Moving to Bryce Canyon...closest crags, boulders, anything
|
Just looking for some decent climbing close to bryce canyon that I could get on after work on weekdays. Obviously there is plenty more that can be done when I have time to road trip on weekends...so pumped to move to a state with so much quality climbing! |

Hmm--tons of potential, not much established. I'd say start exploring on the west side of Escalante in the massive boulder fields littering the slopes of Kaiparowits either side of the hiway as it leaves town into the canyon. Quite a variety of size, style and quality, but I think worth looking around. Also if you take the back road straight north from Bryce towards Antimony and some other ghosty towns, there's a lot of enticing rock to be seen. There's a little area posted on MP here at the fringe of Aquarius plateau in that direction too. A few places high on the plateau have excellent basalt/andesite exposed... |

The Jungle is a new area that has seen a lot of development over the last year. Haven't been but its supposed to be excellent. Probably the closest crag to Bryce. Cedar Canyon is probably the closest large area. |

"close" and "decent" are subjective here for sure... after work/weekdays might be tough. besides the jungle, red canyon might have some potential for "after work" but it's pretty soft rock. The Kodachrome area might have some potential too. Burr Trail (Long Canyon) and Capital Reef have some stuff for your single days off. Weekends = Zion/St. George for sure. |

We went up Burr ? trail one time and took a right at the top- tons of stuff, crazy. Nice camping. |

Thanks a lot for the info guys, I was beginning to think I was just going to have to explore the area for myself. I'll look in to the west side of escalante...definitely down for some exploring the desert and finding some quality stuff. I'll make sure to keep you updated on any interesting finds. |
