I'm heading to Sedona and I'm looking for a place to camp. I found a few campsites online, but it is hard to tell which are good or close to climbing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

not likely... there is not any place that i know about, that is close to sedona to camp.

What I do remember, but have not checked out myself is A FS road called shenbly hill rd (name could be speelled wrong) that might have some possibilities on National forest land.

good luck

I've camped along Schnebly Hill Road before and it was pretty nice. There seemed to be plenty of spots. It's still a bit of a drive though to get down into Sedona (~30 min). I believe if you take Exit 320 (Schnebly Hill Road) west off of I-17 it's about 12 miles on the FS road to Sedona. The camping spots are along the road in the first 4 or 5 miles, but after you come down over the Mogollon Rim and are within 5-6 miles from Sedona camping is prohibited.

South of Sedona past Oak Creek there is a FS road on the right there is camping out that way it is about the closest place to camp for free that I know of.

As mentioned you can camp along Schnebley Hill Rd. and other places for free. There are a few small pay campgrounds up Oak Creek Canyon that are minutes from town and some climbing areas in that canyon. These cg's are in nice forested areas right on the creek. You'll need some kind of pass to park legally. I hang my National Park Pass in the windshield using a holder provided by rangers in Sedona. There's a new visitor center/ranger station on 179 just east of Oak Creek Village.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
