Wondering if someone knows of affordable rental rates on a high clearance vehicle in Moab? That way I can drive an itty-bitty fuel-efficient car there and still drive below the rims.

Thxs JLP - I did see those guys at $150/day........ I'm hoping for more like $100/day or even less, but maybe that's unrealistic. Great to know about the easy pickup and drop-off hours.

$150/day is what a tricked out jeep cost in CO, too. Rented one last year to avoid hurting my truck...and it was worth it.

Basically, they know that you aren't going to be nice to it. They know you're renting it because you don't want to put the hurt on your own truck, so...

why would they let you beat on theirs for cheap?

I want to say I remember the cheapest place to rent jeeps was at DIA here in Denver. It was significantly cheaper than the local rental places which makes no sense. The mileage on a jeep isn't that bad just to drive to Moab. Check the airport and get the no questions insurance if you plan to scratch or beat the hell out of it.

Yea, got it. I certainly never beat up my trucks in the old days, but sure that's the "drive it like a rental" mentality. In a short-lived bout of enthusiasm, I even ran a couple trails like Kane Creek & Metal Masher or whatever the off-road crowd calls them. I'm just thinking of something to get me down the Shafer trail, heck a mini-SUV would do just fine. In the 8 years since trading away those guzzlers for a Prius, it figures that I've saved 6,000+ gallons of gas so outta be able to pop for a few days rental at $150 a crack. Still love to go cheap.....

... postscript... "never beat up my trucks"... except once almost 20 years ago - whups almost forgot... when I rolled one trying to impress a girl with my cool driving.... heh. We caught some free air and ended up back on the wheels, drove it home 400mi open-air coupe-style. She & I still climb together...maybe I can borrow her mini-SUV today...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
