Garmin Oregon 200 for $239.00 or Garmin eTrex Vista HCx for $210.00

I am considering buying one of these GPS devices for general hiking, exploring, scrambling etc...

Low 200's is my budget.

Which one should I choose? (or chime in with another suggestion)

An eTrex with the electric compass and barometric altimeter or the Oregon with no electric compass or altimeter but with a touch screen that is larger than the eTrex?

Anyone out there that has had a chance to try both types?

Thanks,
John

Get the Vista HCx. The screen on the Dakota/Oregon series isn't bright enough in the sun until you go to the Oregon 550. The Vista also has a longer battery life.

If it were me buying one I would choose features like a compass or an altimeter over battery eating touch screens.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
