Is there anyone out there who lives in CT and has any experience climbing at the West Hartford reservoir? I found a cliff band of about 30-40 feet high and maybe 300 feet long with a really cool crack there. Tried leading it twice but failed....was wondering if anyone knew what has or has not been climbed there? I am curious to know if anyone has ever climbed it.

I've been there but mostly to boulder. As far as i know climbing in the west hartford res (or on any MDC) property is off limits and you can be fined if caught.

Last I knew, Scottie is correct. The rock you found is probably called Kilkenny Rock. I've seen MDC police there before. Myself and a buddy were taking a break from mountain biking when I saw an MDC officer looking at us through binos! He slinked back into the trees and then reappeared a few minutes later in the open for a "friendly" conversation. It was a really weird experience.

Anyway, there is some decent bouldering on MDC property, but I don't know if that's technically illegal too, or if only roped climbing is disallowed. A little further down the road from Kilkenny is Split Rock which has a couple kewl little problems on it.

Good luck!

i think bouldering is illegal too. i've never been bothered by anyone. if they were to stop and ask me where i'm going with the big pad on my back i'd just squint and say it's a large print book and i'm going to read

Hey guys, thanks for the info.

I know for a fact that its not Kilkenny rock because it is in the CT guide book and this cliff band is somewhere else.

I know it is illgal so I don't go a lot at all...would be lame to be fined like 500 bucks.

BUT, I found a very cool line thats about 40 feet high one day. It's off trail and very hidden and I have been very motivated to climb it.

I climbed it on TR a few times but the lead still eludes me.

Hopefully one of these days ill muster up the cojones to lead it
