we will be traveling through alamosa and durango this weekend. we are looking for free camping nearby in both area. it is not necessary to be close to climbing area, depending on time, we might not be able to climb. any beta will be appreciated! thanks in advance!

Durango has lots of free camping up pretty much any forest road. Hermosa creek road, junction creek road, lemon reservoir area, etc.

if your heading thru the passes on hwy 550 north, hit up old lime creek rd for some decent car-camping. south entrance to the road is just past cascade village. it exits out onto hwy 550 about 5 miles north. a cool loop with lots of easy camping.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
