Free camping close to town is a little spotty, there are some bandit pullouts on the west side of rabbit ears pass. If your in town to climb there is usually camping close to the climbing areas. If climbing south of town near the domes, there is excellent camping along FS road 100 (buffalo park road) which heads south off the east summit of rabbit ears, marked with a sign. If climbing north of town you will be climbing around seedhouse road FS 400. which goes east just after you cross the elk river in clark. very good free dispersed camping abounds just after the road turns to dirt. IF you have to be close to town there is pay camping up at dry lake/buffalo pass area and some pay camping on rabbit ears pass. have fun!

It's been awhile since this was posted.

Does anyone know if there's anything to be added or subtracted from Dustin's insights?

You can always go ninja style on the mountain (Ski resort), Buff pass maybe crowed cause of hunting same with rabbit ears, possibly go out towards Clark. If you’re mellow (no huge fires, crazy dance parties till sun rise) you shouldn’t have any problems I lived in my car up there for a few summers

Coming from Denver you can cut up to Kremling and go over Gore Pass. That has abundant camping I would think. I have hunted up there and there was a lot of folks camped off the pass road.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
