Seriously, my palms are sweating. What's the story on Moore's wall following rain? Does it dry quickly? Are there sections that stay dry that are recommended soon after a rain storm? Thinking about hitting it up this weekend. Any advice appreciated.

I don't know about this weekend, but the last time I was there, we camped out and it rained like hell overnight. We climbed the next day with no problems. Of course that was just an overnight rain, maybe with several days of it you might have problems with water running from the summit like at Laurel Knob or Stone Mountain. I assume some of the rock is steep enough to stay dry as long as it doesn't run from the top? With all the rain we've had I'll be happy with a handful of dry routes.

Thinking about hitting it up this weekend. Any advice appreciated. Moore's Wall is one of the few Southern Areas that faces North making it a better Summer area. This makes it harder to dry up after a rain since it doesn't recieve much sunlight. And to those that don't know, yes Moore's Wall is good...very, very good. Plus it has some of the best underground bouldering in NC.

How fast Moores dries really depends more on the humidity after the storm. A good cool & dry wind will dry it out fast, whereas humid air after the storm is likely to keep it wet for days, since it is north facing. And yes, the walls are steep and do not tend to have too much water run off. The steepest areas are the hanging garden, circus wall, fire wall, and north end (closed right now I think). Stone does have a good bit of water run off, but it still dries very quickly (with the exception of a few water groves) in comparison to LK. Rumbly might be a good option if the parking lot is open. Also, some places in Linville, such as Shortoff, dry very quickly due to the nature of Linville Gorge's generally harder winds. Shortoff is very similar to Moores, but is usually much warmer since it gets afternooon sun. Hopefully the weather will clear out by Sunday as expected.

We have had 4 days of heavy rain. Moore's will have very limited dry rock tomorrow with most needing at least 2 days. But, the nights are warmer now and the temps are good. Be sure to bring a layer if you head before May. And yes, Moore's is amazing.
