Kalymnos accommodation/ferry beta

My fiance and I are thinking about hitting up Kalymnos for our honeymoon in early June. I know the climbing is amazing, and have had a few recommendations about places to stay. A friend of mine recommended Lambrinos Studios, anyone out there have other recommendations?
I also am wondering about ferry schedules from Kos to Kalymnos. It seems like the flights to Kalymnos from Athens are often canceled due to high winds, and that it is a better bet to fly to Kos and take a ferry to Kalymnos. Do ferries run in the afternoon/evening to Kalymnos from Kos? Flights from Athens seem to arrive about 5 PM so I am guessing they do, but maybe someone out there can confirm this (online ferry schedules don't seem to be part of Greek culture yet .. )

Thanks!

We stayed at Lambrinos. Very recommended.

I'd imagine in early June it'll be more crowded than earlier in the spring (we were there in April and they were booked then, we had reservations from a few months prior). I'd try to nail down a place as the main tourism season starts to get in full swing by summer.

I found a number of sites with online ferry schedules. I seem to recall that 4pm or so was about the latest. I, uhh, used "Kos to Kalmnos ferry schedule" in a search engine and a bunch popped right up.

If the flight to Kalymnos is cancelled due to high winds, then since Kos is so close, it might be cancelled there too. We went prior to the flights to Kalymnos, so, flew into Kos and with high winds, the ferry was cancelled. So, we hurried into Kos town via taxi (you fly into/near Mastichari on Kos where the ferries depart) and caught the Dodekanisos Seaways Express, which is a fast catamaran. So, that's an option too, but, I think their latest schedules show a departure from Kos to Kalymnos around 10:30am or 11am.

I'd probably book straight to Kalymnos. If high winds cancels the flight, and, you can get to Kos, then do that spur of the moment. Kos is a pretty cool place to spend a night.

Might be a tad warm in June, but, should be doable chasing the shade.

Have a great trip.

Hi there! I've lived in Greece a few times and these are my suggestions:

Don't take an airplane to an island. Just like someone else said, if high winds have cancelled a flight to Kalymnos, they'll also cancel a flight to Kos. Take a ferry. Every Greek and tourist alike takes them. These are anything from the massive ships that shuttle hundreds of people to Crete or small boats that handle 2 hr rides. Kalymnos is, I believe, quite a few hours away, although not a full day, so it's not a bad ride, either.

Accomodations are pretty great on any of the islands, and even better, as Kalymnos isn't a hotspot like Santorini or Ios, you should get some great prices for the start of tourist season as well. (Haggling is possible, but Greeks are stubborn)

This look familiar?

Great spot!

I'm heading there the 1st 2 weeks of April - and am soooo stoked!

Staying at triantafillos.gr/, which is close to the approach for the grande grotta, vs Lambrinos which is close to the poets (and fully booked!). Anyone stay there before????

I too have been wondering about the athens to kalymnos leg. Since we get into Athens at 5 PM, we will stay there the night (any suggestions on where), and then get an early flight to KOS, and ferry over. A 12+ ferry ride from athens is not something I am interest in...

I think Kos is a bigger airport, and can take larger planes so wind is less of an issue. Also, there are 3 flights a day to Kos, and only one to Kalymnos, in the evening.

have fun over there everyone1

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
