I'm spending the week in Warner Robins, GA for work. Are there any indoor climbing options in this part of GA (closer than Atlanta)?

If I end up going to Atlanta, it looks like Wall Crawlers is the closest gym. Is this a legit gym (website is pretty weak), or am I better off driving a bit further to Escalade or Atlanta Rocks?

Thanks!

There aren't any real options in middle GA. If you want to climb indoors your best bet is Atlanta. It will take you about 2 hrs to get to one of the gyms from Warner Robins. If you want to boulder then I'd reccomend Lake Juliette. It's about ten minutes north of Macon. It's a small area but there is some good stuff and a lot of it is low to the ground so you could get away with no pad or spotter. A lot is overhung so you can get a good workout.

Thanks Davis, any comments on which gym to go to in Atlanta? I don't think I'll have enough after-work daylight to boulder outside.

This time of year you have decent light till about 6. The only gym I've been to in Atlanta was Atlanta Rocks Intown. They have a website. I think it's Atlantarocks.com. It was pretty good I guess and they had a bouldering area as well. I think you still have to take their belay test no matter what you are doing. I'm sure some of the Atlanta guys will chime in with the best gym.

Just a quick blurb, check out indooorclimbing.com for listings on most indoor rock climbing gyms, you'll be able to access websites to the gyms and also be able to get directions fairly easily to just about any gym you can find.

ATL Rocks is a good gym, lots of variety. If you are coming up from south of town there is a gym called Wall Crawlers, smaller, but has great route setters. wallcrawlerrock.com/

Yeah, as mentioned closest gyms are Atlanta Rocks and Wall Crawlers. Both are nice gyms. AR is probably slightly bigger, with more routes. Both have large bouldering areas. If you need a partner for AR let me know. I usually climb there mid week.

If I were you, I'd just go on to Atlanta Rocks. Wall Crawler might be marginally closer, but it'd be harder to find if you don't know Atlanta, whereas Atlanta Rocks is just off the interstate you'll be coming in on. Aside from that, I think Atlanta Rocks is just a better facility.
