Has anybody climbed Bald Rock Mtn in Cashiers, or heard of any ascents of it? I think it is private property, but it is an awesome looking face, probably 600-700 ft.

There are routes there. I have heard if you go ask at Camp Merrywood, they will let you go if camp is not in season. But, with Whitesides, Big Green and of course Laurel Knob so nearby, why bother?

This is true. It's just that my grandparents have a crystal clear view of it from their house. I've been going down there since I was a kid, and now that I climb I think it would be fun to tackle, if Bald Rock is forgiving enough. Do you know of any of the routes on it? Or does camp Merrywood? Thanks for the info.

drove by it Saturday on the way to Laurel. My partner has climbed there. He confirmed that Merri-Wood is the way to go. Depending on who you talk to there, they may have some route info. He said lots of good moderates. Have fun!

I've heard it has several routes. And that there were at some point in the late 70's early 80's fixed protection on some routes. Supposedly steel anchors drilled into the rock. I haven't climbed it myself, but have looked at it a few times.

Got in contact with Merrie-Wood yesterday. Turns out all they need is a filled out waiver. Looks like it could be another destination on my trip out there! Now I just need some route info...

If you do go there, be sure to post up on what the climbing is like. Let us know if it's worth a side trip when Laurel Knob is too crowded (hah hah!). JL

I think they hired Longenecker to establish [bolt]some user-friendly moderates about 10-15 years back. They were real nice people, Gordon and Laurie, although I heard that they have since moved on and there is new management at Merrie Wood. sounds like the climber access deal hasn't changed, though- call ahead, fill out waiver, and you're good to go.

Turns out they only let camp alumni climb there. I'll keep trying but it looks doubtful.
