I have noticed driving by HWY 101 and 156 around San Juan Bautista there are rocks that appear to be at least 40' tall and many boulders in the area. I was curious if this area is climbable or if it is not(private property, bad rock material, etc) Thanks for any info!

I've noticed these too, the area looks really great and very climbable... has anyone gone in for a look?

I too have noticed these rocks and just googled this - 5 years later. You see them on the way to pinnacles, and from afar they look like perhaps the “consistency” of Boy Scout Rocks at MT. Diablo.
Digging up an old thread, but it’s kind of fun to pile on.

Dirty, extra chossy, and on private property. I’ve eyed them up several times with binoculars. My dad went up there in the 80’s. Wasn’t worth it. The big boulder used to have grafitti on it maybe 10 years ago. So someone rapped into it.

Private property. Sheit rock and poison oak. People scoped it out 30 years ago.

If you want to scout new rock, near the Hollister/San Juan Bautista area, here's what I've found: - Limestone boulders off 25 north of Pinnacles. I hiked over to one of the boulders on the way back from Pinns, looks good, but not much of it. May be private property. I've wondered if there is more limestone in the area. GPS: 36.6050421,-121.1981282
- There's this set of what look like boulders just outside of Paicines (further north on 25, closer to Hollister). Probably private property. No idea how to access it. GPS: 36.732306,-121.2648489
- There is also some rock-like stuff in hills to the east of Hollister. No idea how you'd get there without a dirt bike or mountain bike. GPS: 36.9026429,-121.2643941 Note that Google maps does something weird when entering this GPS. The rocks are to the south east.
- Near San Louis Reservoir is an area called Basalt Day Use area. It has what looks like some quarry rocks. This seems like a good bet. No idea what's actually there. GPS: 37.0186655,-121.0622897
- The stuff off Rocks Road is a pile, and in poison oak, and on private property. I went up there in high school, discovered an old Leeper 1/4" bolt at the top (near a huge oak tree), and tons of PO at the bottom. Didn't seem worth exploring more. GPS: 36.855284, -121.601324
I've updated with GPS for these. Mountain Project seems to garble Google Maps links.

@Tony L: Those map pins are... not useful. Please update unless they were meant to be funny. Your descriptions sound sincere though. Thanks a ton!

Ok. What’s going on?? Those pins go to… random locations in Thailand, Turkey and Iran?? I’ll get them updated when I’m back at a computer.

I updated the listings above with GPS, deleted the Google Maps pins. MP seems to garble Google Maps links.
