Spruce Mountain Trails Between Monument and Larkspur??

Has anyone climbed any of those white cliffs West of I-25 on Highway 52 I think?? It's not Monument Rock, I was wondering if that place has a name besides the trail name? Some sick rock formations, but short climbs. I am going to check it tomorrow, and I was wondering if anyone had done any routes out there or know anything about the place. Possibly a TOPO or route names and difficulty ratings??? Thanks!

I've been curious about those cliffs, too. They've been on my list of things to explore. I'd be very interested in your findings.

Off of Spruce Mtn. Rd. between Larkspur and Palmer Lake? Having thrashed for an hour thru scrub oak hell to get to the stuff on the east side of I-25 once, I'll put my money on it being kitty litter. However, in the general area there is a granite thing west of Perry Park that's been on my hike up & check out list for a while. I know some Perry Park people, they tell me its snaky as hell though.

took my shoes and a chalk bag out a few years back and the truth is, there are a few dynamite formations (that huge spire in the middle of the perry park golf course, for example) but mostly it's been really chossy, flaky, sandy, unprotectable hell.
there are a couple of very nice flakes in the area as well (those white ones off of jackson and such)
on the whole the area is good for bouldering and stuff, but not likely a workable area

Thanks all! I didn't have a chance last weekend, but I am going to hit it up for myself too see this weekend, and to take the family out on a nice little hike. It doesn't seem very populated, so that's nice. I guess the parking constraints would also help in that!

Kevin,
Is there an area to set up Top rope, since you can't really place pro?? I was hoping to ascend some first lines, but obviously that isn't as much as a secret as I thought! I am just glad you gave me a heads up, so I didn't get my hope's up like I already did!!

Thanks!! Climb on!!

Islander - to be honest there are a few areas around there that could potentially go with top ropes - lots of webbing though. it would be fun, i just don't think its the kind of place that could really be worked into a feasable area. lots of good bouldering. if it weren't for the obvious threat of arrest, that spire at the golf course in perry park is mighty damn tasty - i'm certain it's been done, prob by the likes of d'antonnio or Tom Hanson while i was still but a sparkle in my pop's eye... but hell, if there's anyone willing to pay my bail, i'll partner up for a shot....

Islander and kevin - I don't think you guys are talking about the same crags. Kevin is referring to the boulders around Perry Park (mostly Fountain formation red rock); I think islander is referring to the white cliff bands off of Spruce Mtn. Road further south.

Mike,

Yeah, you are right! I am talking about the white cliff bands which are west of I-25. The parking lot is the Spruce Mountain Trails dirt parking lot at the bottom.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
