Yosemite in June/July...too hot?
I'm looking for some feedback on what people think about this topic--Is it just too hot during the months of June and July to climb in Yosemite, or can shade and some tolerable temps be found? |
June might be okay, but by July it might be getting pretty hot. When it's super hot in the valley, it's possible to climb on the "other" side, as cliffs like Sentinel, The Cathedral Rocks, the Rostrum, etc. get a lot of shade. |
I've been twice now in June and it was getting pretty hot and this was early June. We chased shade which made it a bit more tolerable but this past year we left and headed to Tahoe and it was a ton better. I'm actually not going at that time next year and am headed to Squamish. |

June can be iffy in the Valley...July will be. The hell with Tahoe. Head up to Tuolumne. Some of the best climbing on the planet up there. |
Summer in the Valley is usually warm to hot (80-90+ degrees) as the elevation is only about 4000'. If you feel the need to climb there you can always chase the shade and/or climb on north-facing walls with frequent dips in the Merced to cool off. Chapel Wall, Mecca and the Rostrum area are some cool spots IIRC. |

June in Yosemite is good...long days, sometimes hot, sometimes wet. |
