Climbing near Hood River?
|
My wife and I are going to be in Hood River this weekend. Any place to get a nice day of climbing nearby (within an hour drive)? |

beacon is your best option from hood river, and a good one at that. that is, of course, if you like long sustained traditional pitches. |

is that it> there are only two places to climb around hood? |

Bulo Point offers some amazing views, and a handful of pretty fun routes. North-facing, so I'd imagine it'll be chilly!
Pete's Pile is closer, but have never climbed there. Looks like fun columnar basalt trad (welcome to the Northwest). Will also be likely rather chilly, as it is pretty shaded and right off the chilly glacial river. Ozone is not too far and is a fantastic local crag. Catch a sunny day and the south-facing (albeit shady) views of the river, soothing murmur of traffic above you, and fun climbs will make for a great pump and day out. t |

There are quite a few crags scattered about the Oregon & Washington sides of the Columbia River. Some of the crags have possible access issues so they are not posted online, but check out the Facebook Group "Cascade Corridor Climbers" and you'll get all the beta you want. Also feel free to drop me a message & I'll answer any questions & show you around. Elmomecsko@gmail.com |
