Zions more obscure summits
|
Wanted to make a thread to talk about Zion’s more obscure summits and how it is fun to go up things here.
What haven’t you done that you would like to? What’s a great day scramble/linkup that you think more people should try? What’s wrong with you? Do you have a good plan and need some friends to share the experience with? What has evaded you? Etc…. |

I have spent an extensive amount of time in the Zion backcountry. Peakbagging in Zion NP specifically is what I'm locally known for. 1.Favorite depends on what style of peak you're looking for. 2. I have about 74 left that I still need to complete. They all matter equally to me. 3. More people should do the cowboy ridge to West temple linkup. 4. I like choss and bushes 5. I am always looking for folks to suffer with me. 6. Nothing has evaded me yet. All the peaks i have failed, I have since summited. |

I just moved to Springdale am I'm looking forward to these kinds of adventures. I just did mountain of the sun, pretty fun rout finding scramble but more of a hike. James I was looking at a cowboy ridge west temple linkup, I wasn't sure if that was a thing or not, I'd love to pick your brain! |

How many peaks are there? |

I got a total count of 232 on that list you linked. It lacks a few peaks. Close to all the numbered peaks on that list have names now. My personal count with RNAs included is 243. That being said I do not count sub peaks in the count unless recognized as a uniquely named feature: examples: The Organ, The Annex, Magic Rabbit peak, or Joyous Guard. A few examples (that I do not count) that I've summited that are subpeaks/towers and muddy the water on what a peak is. Ex: Weeping Rock, Tunnel Knob, Sub peak of Meridian Tower, and The Pulpit. |

The Bishophric formations are very cool and deep, deep in the park. One of my favorite days in the park was hitting one of those. South guardian has always evaded me.... many peaks evade me these days. Being roped up on a much steeper wall is far safer and satisfys the urge for adventure. |

I assume James has done the scrambling route up The Watchman. Anyone else? Looks interesting and a good level of spicy scrambling. |
|
The scrambling isn't too spicy. The challenge is not getting lost. Then it gets spicy. |

I’m a relatively inexperienced climber but I’d love to go hit some climbs in zions with a more experienced climber in June. Anyone interested? |

Cowboy to W Temple is awesome! Not sure I'd call it obscure though. A short rope to rappel a lower step on Watchman took a lot of spice out. |

I remember the Watchman having some cairns? Been a while... The scramble route is also the walk off for technical routes up the Watchman face where I am assuming some people are coming off in the dark so things are marked. Don't remember it being too bad. Photos of James and I on the Watchman from back in the day. |
