Hi All,
I've had some downtime from climbing because of a rotator cuff injury and decided to try my hand at iOS app development.
I made a gear management and age/use tracker called RackTracker, it's available for iOS at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/racktracker/id6742724304..

Thought this may be of use for folks like me that are prone to forgetting just how old some gear is.

Feedback always welcome. Btw, it is ad supported both to defray a bit of the cost of publishing to the App Store ($100/year for me) and to better learn the backend development to properly integrate with Admob.

very cool, playing with it now.  I'm using excel as a rope log right now.  is there a way to output the logs to a printer?

Thanks Jim, no export functionality right now but that’s a great idea, I’ll add it to my improvements list.

Andrew, I don't want to hijack this thread but did you consider using one of cross platform frameworks so you can target both iOS and Android?

Good question, I had looked at React Native but I already had some limited experience with Swift so decided I had a better chance of getting to a finished app that way. Plus I’d never published on the App Store before so I wanted to take it one step at a time. Looking into porting for Android as well.

Does this mean I still shouldn't be using stuff that is 50 years old?

I dig the concept- have been using excel for years.

My biggest issue is that there's no distinction between date of acquisition and sling year or anything. From someone running a dirtbag rack, there's a big difference between buying a rack off a dude in the creek in 2023 and buying new gear. The shit I've got is from like 2016-2020, undeniably due for an inspection, but not according to the app.

Also, how on earth would I add bootied gear for which I have no clue when they were made or bought?

Seems like a bit much for cams and biners and such, and I certainly don't wanna log in an app every time I use certain gear.

Probably good as a reminder for ropes though.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
