I'm looking at taking a week long MTB trip with my parents to Morzine, France at the beginning of September and am wondering if there is climbing near by or close enough. I'd love to stay an additional week and climb, but worry about finding partners and places to climb. I unfortunately don't speak any French at all, but would love to get out and climb.
Currently projecting 5.12s but would be happy to climb on anything.
Let me know if you have any good suggestions of places to climb, or if you would also be interested in climbing!
There is a lot of limestone climbing nearby. Morzine is in the Chablais region, and there happens to be an extremely comprehensive website (in French, truly a labor of love) documenting the area, with a free PDF guidebook with all of the routes. Just by opening the guide I found a 10-pitch 5.11 trad route, 2 miles outside of Morzine. I don't think this area is very busy given its proximity to Chamonix and the fact that it's a bit hard to get to. If you're looking for references, the mountains to the east/north are also known as the chaîne franco-suisse.
If you're willing and able to travel a bit further, Morzine is an hour's drive away from Chamonix, enough said.
