Big Wall Food One Can't Go Without

Climbing Weasel wrote: Next level would be the dried bull penises sold at boutique pet stores—now there's some bang for your buck! Probably not as nutritious as the beef hearts, but you could also use them as cheater sticks to reach a distant rivet... In all seriousness, some of my favorite wall foods are: • honey—packed with natural sugars, antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, vitamins and minerals, and it goes with almost everything. I have fond memories of taking turns with my buddy chugging straight out of the bottle upon topping out. I don't remember many other moments where such simple food tasted so good. • bags of shelled pistachios—for the weight, the shelled nuts are loaded with fats, protein and salt. When I'm soloing I don't have as much time to stop and eat, so grabbing a handful of these makes it easier to quickly load up on what I can't seem to get enough of on a wall. You definitely will need water, or at least some honey, to wash them down. • precooked chicken-apple sausage provides a quick and easy feast at any time of day. Not vegan friendly, though, obviously. • the ready-made packages of Indian dhal (lentils) or potatoes are very flavorful, can be eaten cold and go well with naan/tortillas/bread. • If you have a stove to boil water, the modern dehydrated meals are pretty easy, delicious and fulfilling. |

Peanut butter and sesame seeds and honey with a pitch of salt |

I think it was Chouinard that took cans of cat food on walls BITD, Dirt bag cuisine at its finest. Not a wall guy, but I'd take a couple Payday candy bars on long multi pitch routes BITD. |

Seems that we have been regularly bringing Swedish Fish, they are a fantastic little snack plus Gushers. Ya, Gushers are the best for long runs, big days and that nice balance between chewy and gooey. |

But after opening and eating it, we spent the rest of the day smelling the left over tuna packet juice. It was quite repulsive after several hours. I can image after several days. And I wouldn’t want to waste my precious wall water on cleaning the packet |

My legendary home made beef jerky. |

My first wall was Washington Column in 1983. I forget most of the stuff we ate, but do have a picture from dinner ledge of me eating pineapple rings out of the can with my ‘super long dong’ piton cleaning tool. Delicious! What I do remember quite vividly is getting benighted half way down North Dome Gully with no food or water; all we had for the long, cold night was butterscotch candies and 2/3 bottle of my partner’s Jack Daniel’s. I occasionally eat butterscotch candies now, but to this day cannot even stand the smell of Jack Daniel’s. |

I started a DIY ENERGY GEL AND DRINK thread that might be of interest to some wallers |

Just remembered!! Coconut water! The hydration ounce for ounce is very hard to beat. You can almost feel tour cells hydrating after slamming a Cdub at the end of a day. |

Jodi Tallo wrote: Haha did you eat the tuna and shove the empty packet into your pocket? Luckily on a wall you have these things called haul bags where you can keep your trash and other things. |
