Book club for climbing and life?
|
Hello All! I have been kicking around the idea of a book club. First does anyone know of any climbing specific book clubs that exist already? My book club idea is "better climber, better life". Personally I like how climbing motivates me to be better mentally and physically, and have read many books in the pursuit of better climbing that also translate to life, and more "life" books that translate to climbing. Some examples of these books would be: Rock warrior way, espresso lessons - rock climbing books that have some underlying life lessons Habits, atomic habits, the rise of superman, endure, the inner game of tennis, mindset, the confidence code, the alchemist - general books that have application in our pursuit of better rock climbing. please post here or DM me at 60 five - 38 zero - 923eight if your interested in a book club. also if anyone has any book recommendations, please post with a summary of what the book is about! Thanks! Here is the link to join the whats app group - we will try this as our primary way of communicating! |

I enjoyed the book Revelation by Jerry Moffat (it is like the European version of the spike of sport climbing, hangdogging. I also read Hangdog Days by Todd Skinner (the American side of sport climbing). Reading both seeing the climbing ethics and timeline was pretty cool. And Into Thin Air (the major Everest accident), just a great read! I have read the Push (Tommy Caldwell’s life) would like to read Beth’s version! Anyways, interested need more books to read when I have no cell service in the desert! |

This is the message I sent out via group text: If you did not get a text, send a text message to 60five-38zero-923eight, and I'll add you to my list. Goodmorning climbing bookclub friends! I'm excited to start this bookclub! My hope is to take the books we read and bring some application into our lives, or if a memoir, to have a group to discuss and relate on the perils of the prose. - So, first I was thinking about times that would work for the masses: 5 pm eastern/8pm mountain I was hoping would catch the most people. I am proposing wednesday, but if that doesnt work for you, personal message me times and days that work best. I think we could start with once per month. Im proposing October 30 as the first day. - For the first book, it seemed we had many people interested in mental training, so I was going to propose Vertical Mind by Jon McGrath and Jeff Elison. Im going to try to pick books that are available in both audiobook and e-readers, but wont exclude books if they are not on those, to maximize peoples chances of getting the book easily. - My initial plan would be to cover the first two chapters at the first virtual meetup, and let the group get to know each other. There may not be a ton of content in these first two chapters but I would just like to get the ball rolling with this group before the hustle of the fall holidays descend upon us. - My second day to do a virtual meetup proposal would be wednesday dec 4, 5 pm eastern, 8 pm west coast. - I would also coordinate a november day but i will be traveling for the month of November, so its unlikely i will be around. - Another order of buisness would be what platform to use. I do not currently have a zoom account so that cuts you off at 40 min - do anyone have suggestions for a video virtual meetup? Pm me suggestions. - Lastly, I'm considering starting a simple website that allows for topics and user posting, so in between book club meetings we can discuss topics - would anyone be interested in this aspect? - Additionally, if each person could text the group, your full name, your home base (or if you are on the road!) so if people are close perhaps we can find some new climbing friends, and what you love most about climbing! If we can all wait till midday to barrage the group text, I'm sure the west coast folks will appreciate that. I look forward to chatting with all yall! I was surprised by how many people were interested in a book club! |
