UPF/UV Rated Hats For Under Helmet

Hi anyone have a UV prevention  certified hat they like for climbing?

Baseball caps provide pretty little UV protection.

Usually I'm wearing some cotton sun hats. Such hats provide marginal UV protection. . Recently I got my first UPF Rated hat. But it's too large and would impede vision under a helmet.

Anyome have a specific brand or model of UPF Rated Hat that works well under a helmet?

Something budget would be well received. Obviously will be washing it more often because of the activity so efficacy and repurchases are a factor.

People who discourage a hat might be here too...

Hats made for running or trail running tend to work well under helmets. I'd search for a UPF rated version there first. Another option if you're worried about impeded vision is a cycling cap, as they have short brims. Are you opposed to a sun hoody? That's my usual solution. Climbing-focused companies make them with hoods large enough to go over helmets comfortably.

Removable cape, which looks bigger in this picture than it really is. Available in other colors. No button or seams on the crown. I fold the bill up for ascending and down for descending. It’s NOT made in China.

All hats will have a UPF rating they're just not tested for it. Darker colours tend to have a higher UPF rating but anything that isn't a mesh should provide suitable UV protection.

The old school solution was attach a bit of fabric (often a bandana) to the back of your helmet, this has benefits of being easy to take on and off as well as good airflow, keeping it in place with wind can be trickier though so most people have gone over to sun hoodies as Adam has mentioned.

If you want a peak to add some extra shade to your face just make sure to avoid hats with a rivet on top, everything else should be reasonably comfortable.

Thanks for that. I am airing on the side of UPF as there seems to be a consensus it's important. Good advice on the helmet bit

Look at Da Brim - over the helmet, not under!

I just chop the center out of a brim hat like that with excellent results. YMMV.

concerning the UPF protection of hats.... All fabric provides protection. Where do you need protection? Back of the neck? face? top of head is a bit much to worry about if you have hair or wear a helmet.....
Polyester or nylon are some of the better textiles at blocking UV if UV is the concern. But then you're also adding more micro plastic into the world. Just cant win.

Sunday Afternoon Tripper. No button on top, no hole in back.  Last forever, throw in wash.  https://www.sundayafternoons.com/products/sun-tripper-cap?variant=37929300558014

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
